Recommended Resources on Revelation
Here’s a list of some books and video-audio lectures/sermons that will prove helpful for further reflection and study.
Commentaries
The Revelation of St John - Ian Boxall; Black’s New Testament Commentary Series (Continuum Press)
Revelation 1-11 (vol. 1); 12-22 (vol. 2), by Peter Leithart; International Theological Commentary (T&T Clark)
Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament, by DA Carson and GK Beale - massive and comprehensive, a must-have for those who want to engage in serious study of how Revelation (and other eschatological passages in the NT) work with the Old Testament text - https://www.amazon.com/Commentary-New-Testament-Use-Old/dp/0801026938/ref=sr_1_1?crid=28X3LY0ZQR7XJ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.VCVKYNQr0RnYzmBqwQ11h7EWJFbQCw9gPWZ6eh3TuVjNKP9FNN284qwj4-q_dHnB4B_L-avs4McC5ldhuHbqq8CT03mwgy-WElg8yM3s_Hsc7ju2uzD47NvMXxT8qz5ljfpiXFqQmu3z-cwuU-WF8NLonoGTMmKodJ7mwOh6l8Gy6u0UqcZRTeNd6fps-Fp2SBz7mMwowlx3yp1pSZLSNRtr6OFQtwe0eWbnOYRU6wg.GrLcZwDGmVZCZdTZQKps5EU2gPuX6S1lHnMSqZpEuHk&dib_tag=se&keywords=commentary+on+the+new+testament+of+the+old+testament&nsdOptOutParam=true&qid=1778152646&sprefix=commentary+on+the+new+te%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-1
Revelation, A Shorter Commentary, by GK Beale (Eerdmans)
I highly commend Beale’s massive New International Greek Commentary on Revelation as well, but for those who want to own a scholarly work that engages the text with immense detail.
5. Revelation, by Joel Beeke (Lectio Continua Series)
6. Revelation, by Craig Koester (Anchor Series, Yale Press)
A very large commentary with one of the finest introductions to the historical and textual issues one can read.
Studies
Revelation Through Old Testament Eyes, by Tremper Longman (Kregel Academy)
This is a great little book to help a student grasp the connective tissue between Revelation and the Old Testament. A must.
The Sermons to the Seven Churches of Revelation, by Jeffrey Weima (Baker)
Four Views on the Book of Revelation, various contributors (Zondervan Academic)
Revelation - Hope in the Darkness, by Scotty Smith (New Growth Press)
The Theology of the Book of Revelation, Richard Baukham (Cambridge University Press)
Audio Book on this one, too!
Historical Setting - the introductory material in the larger commentaries should cover the important aspects of this issue. But if you’re looking for a more complete treatment or survey, I’d suggest two important books -
